TELL THE WORLD WHAT YOU THINK

Welcome to Ravel Babel.

Comment of the Day: We still want to hear about your trip to the tubing slopes.

Google came out slinging mud at Microsoft this weekend as many expected when the $47 billion Yahoo takeover bid was announced. Watching the two giants slug it out will be a welcome alternative to the expected swiftboating of the Democratic presidential nominee. This is going to be fun.

Senator Jim DeMint, one of the GOP's finest to ever crawl from underneath a rock in South Carolina, wants to punish Berkeley, CA, for its efforts to kick out Marine Corps recruiters by making sure the needy kids in that town go hungry. DeMint wants to take away federal dollars going to nutrition education programs at the Berkeley public schools and give the money to the Marines. Our question is what will the Marines do with a bunch of underfed recruits from California? OK, we know the money DeMint wants to take doesn't go to providing food for kids, but it sounds better to say he wants to starve kids than he wants to keep them ignorant about what they eat. A little poetic license, if you will. Oh, and can someone please explain DeMinted's comment about it being a "slap in face" to servicemen and their families.

Joe Brewer from The Rockridge Institute has some excellent advice on how to counter the lies put out about opponents to the Iraq war. It's simple, really. When someone uses the phrases "cut and run," "embolden the enemy," "defeatist" or "not supporting the troops," simply mention the big lies that got us into Iraq in the first place, "weapons of mass destruction," "Iraq's to blame for 9/11," "spreading democracy." It's not democracy our government is spreading over there.

No big surprise here that Sen. Norm Coleman, R-MN, is endorsing McCain in the Republican presidential primary, nor is there any surprise in Coleman's statement. After all, don't most Republicans live in an alternate reality? Coleman says McCain will "lower our taxes" - but he means only if you are in the top 1 percent - "stop wasteful government spending," he doesn't mean withdraw from Iraq - and "reduce the size of government" - he means the font size of the word government in all official document. No, really, look it up. OK, we're just kidding, but it fits, doesn't it?

A Chinese court has upheld the death sentence of a man convicted of defrauding investors in an ant farm scheme. Now, we are no advocates of the death penalty - in fact ,we find it barbaric and counter productive - but we can't help but wonder how much fraud would be eliminated in this country, including bogus reasons for going to war, if the criminals faced lethal injection.
