Paper Questions Why Cynthia McKinney is Running

By Jake on December 24,2007

Former Georgia Rep. Cynthia McKinney is seeking the Green Party nomination for president and Jeffry Scott of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution asks why. Come on Scottie, why does anyone run for president? They have a message they want to share. You seem to be upset because her campaign refuses to talk to you or any of the other "so-called mainstream media." Perhaps not the smartest thing to do, but it does hurt your feelings, doesn't it?

Long a political lightning rod, McKinney has long inspired loyalty and derision — never indifference.

Now that she's on a one-in-a-trillion quest for the White House — to replace the man she notoriously suggested might have had advance knowledge of the 9/11 attacks — the obvious question is: Why?

The 2004 Green Party presidential candidate, after all, got about 100,000 of more than 121 million cast. That's less than half of 1 percent.

McKinney isn't saying why, at least not to reporters. She declined several interview requests by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
