Minnesota gas prices doubled over the last six years

A study reported by the Minnesota Monitor shows that the price of gasoline in that state has doubled in the past six years. Republicans in Minnesota are pissing and moaning about a proposed increase in the gasoline tax to help fund needed road and bridge repairs. Kinda strange behavior in light of the collapse of a Minneapolis bridge last year that killed many of their citizens. But Republican have always been known for their strange behavior.

While the Minnesota GOP is decrying an 8.5¢ increase to the gas tax, this chart shows the price of a gallon of gasoline in Minnesota has doubled since the invasion of Iraq. From .30 per gallon in 2002 to .05 today, the difference is equivalent to over 20 gas tax increases. Some economists are predicting a gallon of gas will reach $4.00 this summer.
